Thank you for joining us. iCARE, Fighting Hunger Charitable Foundation is happy to have your support.
Our founder, Johnnie Townsend, has long loved blogging. He has his own blog, Inspirational People, where he first blogged about is efforts to raise food and money donations back in October 2014.
The post titled, Making A Difference, is a quick snippet of his time donating to the Detroit Rescue Mission. These were the early days before he even had a name in mind. While there are no other mentions until later in the blog, Johnnie quickly went to work. He quietly helped the local churches and Detroit shelters over the years while he brainstormed how he could make a larger impact.
Jump a few years up the road, in September of 2019, Johnnie blogs again about his efforts to help raise awareness, food donations, and money towards feeding the homeless. He finally had a name too.
This is the first iteration of the iCARE name and logo. Johnnie purchased a bunch of buttons and asked for $1.00 donations and in return, you’d get one of these to show your support. With this effort he was able to raise over $100.00 and went shopping for a bunch of food to donate to a local church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, MI. Living in the area, Johnnie knew that they ran a hot meal clinic and hosted a rotating shelter for the homeless community.
From there on, Johnnie enlisted the help of his family, friends, and coworkers. He wanted to make a larger impact. He kept asking for donations and always spoke about the good he was doing in feeding the homeless. They often encouraged him to start a non-profit organization. This would allow for a greater impact.
In October 2019, Johnnie had saved enough of his own funds to put a retainer down for a lawyer and started all the paperwork to get iCARE, Fighting Hunger Foundation registered as a non-profit organization. He assembled a team of his family members to form the Board and get this thing going. With the help of his eldest daughter and her new husband, they began the process of forming iCARE.
We would love to extend are biggest thanks and gratitude for all who have donated and all who will. Thank you for joining our mission to fight hunger in our local communities.
